Springfield, MO
Attorney General Jay Nixon unveiled Thursday the Know MO Web site, which is intended to help consumers make fully informed decisions about their spending.
The site, accessible through the attorney general’s Web site at www.ago.mo.gov, allows consumers to search for the name of an individual or business in a database going back to Jan. 1, 2004. Search results show how many complaints were registered under a specific name or a specific location, and by clicking on the name, consumers will be able to see the date of each complaint and the category under which the complaint is listed.
“Our consumer protection division staff receives thousands of calls and e-mails every year asking if we have complaints against a certain person or company,” Nixon said in a news release. “By using Know MO, Missourians can now look up that same information instantly any time of day or night.”
Each year, the consumer protection division receives more than 100,000 questions and complaints via e-mail, telephone, mail and fax. As new complaints are received, they are added to the online database. Consumers may file complaints any time online or by calling (800) 392-8222 weekdays 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
