Attorney general joins KC murder trial in Laclede County

Posted online
The murder trial of a Kansas City lawyer accused of killing her father and his girlfriend has been delayed as the Missouri attorney general’s office joins the prosecution.

The trial, scheduled to take place in February, was postponed when a Laclede County Circuit Court judge granted the prosecution a continuance in the case against Susan “Liz” Van Note. The trial is expected to take place later this year, though no date has been set. The Lake Sun reports the process of having attorney general staff joining the prosecution team is fairly common in high-profile cases, according to an AG representative.

Liz Van Note faces two counts of first-degree murder in the October 2010 deaths of William Van Note, 67, and Sharon Dickson, 59. The attorney is alleged to have shot the couple at her father’s lakefront home in Sunrise Beach. Dickson died at the scene but William Van Note survived until his daughter allegedly forged a durable power of attorney to have him removed from life support.
