Dallas-based AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) announced today it has invested $70 million in Springfield the last three years.
The money went toward wireless and wired networks, specifically upgrades to reliability, coverage, speed and performance, for residents and business customers, according to a news release.
In 2014, AT&T made 22 network upgrades in the Springfield area, including expanding 4G long-term evolution service to over 15 cell sites in Springfield, Nixa and Ozark; stretching 4G LTE service along U.S. Highway 65 from Springfield to Branson; and building two new cell sites.
“Technology investments create jobs and new opportunities for Missourians," Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Daniel Mehan said in the release. "We're encouraged by businesses like AT&T that continue to invest in Missouri to deploy new and innovative technology."
This year, the wireless carrier committed to hire 50 employees for its downtown Springfield call center, part of overall plans to hire 230 statewide, according to
