Dallas-based AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today reported the company invested more than $110 million in the Springfield area 2009-12.
The capital largely focused on expanding the company's 4G mobile Internet coverage and touching up its network performance, according to a news release.
"Across Springfield, this robust investment in the AT&T wireless and wireline networks is important to spurring the economy and creating jobs. In our wireless world, mobile and broadband networks create economic opportunities for health care, manufacturing, education, transportation and public safety,” AT&T Missouri President John Sondag said in the release.
AT&T pointed to 45 wireless network upgrades in the Springfield area last year, including new and upgraded cell sites, the addition of capacity, deployment of ethernet connections to cell sites and the addition of antennas.
AT&T reported 2012 net income of $7.3 billion, up from $3.9 billion 2011 profits. The company's shares were trading at $35.74 as of 10:51 a.m., compared to a 52-week range of $29.95 to $38.58.
