AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) has agreed to a $4.85 billion cell-tower deal with Houston, Texas-based Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE: CCI).
The agreement, which involves leasing or selling 9,700 wireless towers to Crown Castle, makes AT&T the latest carrier to offload antenna sites to independent operators – a transaction that lets the company focus on growth areas of more profitable parts of the business, according to Bloomberg.
AT&T is currently planning a $14 billion network upgrade and possibly $11 billion in acquisitions across Europe.
