ATM fees hit new high

The average fee to withdraw money from an ATM that is not affiliated with your bank has hit a record $4.52, according to an annual survey from Bankrate.

That's up 21 percent over the past five years.

Overdraft fees, which occur when you spend more than what's available in your checking account, also have been on a steady climb. The average fee hit a record $33.07, a 9 percent rise since 2010.
