Associated Wholesale Grocers names new CEO

Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc., Kansas City's second-largest private company by revenue, announced a new CEO will start in January.

David Smith, executive vice president of operations, will succeed Jerry Garland, who is staying on in an advisory role, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

AWG, which operates a distribution center in Springfield, supplies more than 3,400 grocery facilities in 26 states. In 2014, the company posted record operating income of $231 million and nearly $9 billion in net sales, according to the report.
