Greene County Assessor Rick Kessinger said that 5.5 percent of property owners' parcels increased in value the last two years - down significantly from the 60 percent of parcels that grew in value following the 2007-08 assessment period.
"Most neighborhoods did not see an increase in assessed value," Kessinger said in a news release that couched the county real estate market as flat.
The appraiser completes the assessments every two years as required by state law.
The county has 119,425 parcels on record, meaning roughly 6,600 parcels experienced gains in value. Those parcel owners will receive notification via mail, Kessinger said. Owners of assessed property that decreased or remained the same will not be notified. The assessments are intended to reflect the fair market value of property as of Jan. 1 of this year.
In Kessinger's observation, Greene County has weathered the national mortgage crisis and the economic downtown better than most counties.
"Our real estate market has been flat, but the data we've seen does not indicate a significant overall reduction in value," Kessinger said.[[In-content Ad]]
