Assemblies of God Theological Seminary picks president

Assemblies of God Theological Seminary at Evangel University hired a new president to succeed its retiring leader.

Approved by the board of trustees yesterday, Mark Hausfeld will take over July 1 for Byron Klaus, according to a news release.

“As a graduate of both Evangel University and AGTS, Dr. Hausfeld is uniquely positioned to lead AGTS into the future as part of the larger Evangel University,” Evangel President Carol Taylor said in the release. “He possesses broad pastoral, missionary, academic and leadership experience, and I am eager for him to join the senior leadership team for the university.”

AGTS at Evangel hired CarterBaldwin Executive Search to conduct a national search for its new president, but it didn’t have to look far. Hausfeld currently serves as international director for Springfield-based Global Initiative: Reaching Muslim Peoples, an Assemblies of God organization dedicated to reaching out to Muslims. He’s also director of AGTS’ Summer Institute for Islamic Studies and an associate professor of urban and Islamic studies at AGTS.

As president of AGTS, Hausfeld will report directly to Taylor and serve on her cabinet as a vice president of Evangel, according to the release.

AGTS merged into Evangel in 2013, along with Central Bible College.
