Assemblies of God missions program hits donation record

Posted online
An Assemblies of God missions giving program for children garnered a record-high donation level of $6.2 million during 2013.

Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge, an organization under the umbrella of Springfield-based Assemblies of God, beat its past record by more than $115,000, according to a news release.

The donations, largely from Assemblies of God churches, fund missionary efforts overseas, as well as some work in the U.S.

"The top 10 BGMC-giving churches gave a total of just more than $440,000," BGMC Director David Boyd said in the release. "Although that's an amazing average, what it also points out is that BGMC relies upon every church doing its part — more than $5.7 million of our record total came from other churches, big and small."

The BGMC program also funds feeding programs, water wells, Bible schools and curriculum, according to its website.
