Donaldson has held the top post at the weekly publication since 1995. His resignation is effective Aug. 29, according to an AG news release.
Donaldson will focus on Convoy of Hope, the Springfield-based nonprofit Christian organization he founded in 1996 that distributes food and supplies to poor and disaster-stricken people.
“It has been an honor to serve at the national headquarters as an editor, but I believe God is wanting me to change hats, to focus on mobilizing caregivers to meet the physical and spiritual needs of hurting people in the United States and around the world,” Donaldson said in the release. He could not be reached for additional comment.
While at Pentecostal Evangel, he led the magazine through a redesign and raised more than $1.7 million to send about 7 million copies to prisons, the release said. The magazine has a weekly circulation of about 190,000 worldwide, according to its Web site.
Ken Horn will continue as editor, and Kirk Noonan will remain as managing editor, while an operations committee “studies and makes recommendations regarding Assemblies of God publications,” the release said.
