Trask, who has been in the position since 1993, will step down at the church’s General Council next month in Indianapolis and will vacate the office 60 days later.
“As a result of seeking the Lord as to His will for my continuing to serve out the remaining two years of the present term, I have reached a decision to step down as General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God,” Trask said in a news release.
Trask has served in national leadership for Assemblies of God for 19 years – 14 years as general superintendent and five years as general treasurer. He also is currently chairman of the World Assemblies of God Congress and is past president of the Pentecostal World Fellowship. He’s a member of the board of administration of the National Association of Evangelicals and the board of directors of National Religious Broadcasters.
Trask was elected to his third four-year term as general superintendent in 2005. A successor will be elected at the upcoming General Council to finish the last two years of Trask's term; any ordained minister is eligible to be nominated for the position.
