Askinosie Chocolate LLC has won an award for the second year in a row at an industry ceremony unofficially nicknamed the "Oscars of food."
The Springfield-based chocolate company took home a Good Food Award Jan. 17 for its dark milk chocolate and sea salt bar. The Good Food Awards were held in San Francisco, according to a news release.
"For us, this honor symbolizes our commitment to not only crafting exceptional chocolate but also positively impacting those we encounter," Askinosie Chocolate Chief Operating Officer Allison Cash said in the release.
The awards recognize food in 10 categories, and winners were selected in a blind tasting of more than 1,450 entries by a panel of 225 judges. Factoring in how the product was sourced and crafted, Askinosie Chocolate was one of 10 winners selected to give a speech on the award and concept of good food.
Askinosie Chocolate sources 100 percent of its beans directly from farmers in Ecuador, Honduras, the Philippines and Tanzania, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
