Asian investors find hot market in U.S. properties

Investors from across Asia are buying up premier commercial real estate, including a large piece of New York's General Motors Building which sold in May, NPR reports.

Canada is the largest foreign buyer of U.S. commercial real estate, but China and other Asian markets are not far behind. NPR estimates about $7 billion in U.S. commercial property have been sold to foreign investors so far in 2013.

Experts refer to the properties as "postcard assets," which often include trophy office towers in gateway cities, luxury hotels and high-street retail such as Rodeo Drive and Fifth Avenue.
