Ashland residents this week rejected a bond issue that called for $40 million in wastewater bonds.
The city, which is around 15 miles south of Columbia, sought to use the funds to improve its wastewater treatment plant and collections systems.
Ashland City Administrator Kyle Michel told KRCG the project would move forward even with voters rejecting the ballot measure. It would need to be part of the city's proposed fiscal 2025 sewer budget because of the failed bond proposal.
