A family of eight living in a one-bedroom farmhouse in Ash Grove will receive a new home this week during a taping of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
The Hampton family was selected from five local finalists Tuesday morning, according to a news release from Millstone Custom Homes, the local builder heading up the project.
Chris and Niki Hampton have an 11-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter, and they have taken in four nieces and nephews who otherwise would have been placed in foster care.
In the one-bedroom, one-bathroom farmhouse, three boys share one set of bunk beds in the dining room, and three girls share another set of bunk beds in what used to be a utility closet. The home has no closets, and plastic storage bins are stacked floor-to-ceiling in every room, according to the release. Dinner is served assembly-line style, and everyone but the younger children sits on the floor.
Chris Hampton is a land surveyor, a basketball and football coach, and president of the Missouri Family Rodeo Association. Niki Hampton is a saleswoman and MFRA secretary. The couple also has rescued six horses that now live on their five-acre farm.
The family will go on vacation to Walt Disney World in Orlando, while the Extreme Makeover team, led by local builder Sam Clifton of Millstone Homes, and hundreds of volunteers transform the home in one week. Framing work has been going on off-site since Saturday in preparation for the big build, but work begins in earnest today.
All materials are donated, and donations are still being accepted to retire the family's mortgage. Numerous companies are working on the project or supplying products and services; Meek's - The Builder's Choice is providing building materials, while Price Cutter is providing food for volunteers.
The design team for this episode of the show features team leader Ty Pennington and designers Michael Moloney and Paige Hemmis, as well as a special guest who will be revealed later this week.[[In-content Ad]]
