Artsy retailer to close downtown

Posted online
A staple of Springfield's First Friday Art Walk is scheduled to close by the end of the month.

Good Girl Art notified its customers via Facebook last week it will close this month after nearly 15 years in operation.

"All good things must come to an end, and our end is nigh. We are closing our sparkly doors at the end of this month after nearly 15 years of magic and treasures to pursue other endeavors and creations," Good Girl officials wrote on the company's Facebook page April 3.

Owned by Lil Olive, the 325 E. Walnut St. shop sells handmade items such as jewelry, clothes and shoes, as well as decor, accessories and trinkets. Its 1,760 square feet of space is often packed during First Friday Art Walk, as the shop showcases local artists' creations. Olive could not be reached for comment Friday or this morning by deadline.

Good Girl Art originally opened in the early 2000s at 215 W. Olive St. It operated there about about six years before moving to its current location - owned by downtown developer Craig Wagoner - next door to the Mud Lounge and The Cup on Walnut Street near Jefferson Avenue.
