Ongoing Exhibits
“AIDS Affects U.$. All,” photographs by Morgan Alexander, are on display through March 15 on the second level of Meyer Library on the Southwest Missouri State University campus. The exhibit features photographic documentation and narration of people from San Francisco, Mexico and Cuba who are experiencing the impact of AIDS in their communities.
“Centennial Art Exhibition,” featuring two- and three-dimensional artwork related to SMSU in celebration of the university’s centennial, continues until March 13 at Springfield Art Museum, 1111 E. Brookside.
“The World of Kapla,” a traveling interactive exhibit that illuminates architecture, inspired art and 3-D problem-solving, continues until May 29 at Discovery Center of Springfield. Admission is $5 for children ages 3-12, $7 for adults and $6 for seniors.

“Behind Closed Doors – Is the Life of High Fashion All That It Appears to Be?” part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week at Drury University, is held at 3:30 p.m. in the President’s Dining Room, Findlay Student Center.
March 1
Career Expo is held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at University Plaza Expo Center, presented by SMSU Career Center, Drury University, Evangel University, Southwest Baptist University and College of the Ozarks.
Choral Conductor’s Concert, presented by the SMSU music department, begins at 8 p.m. at Ellis Recital Hall on the SMSU campus.
“Figuring Out Your Figure and Looking Your Best,” a “What Not To Wear”-style show focused on improving students’ self-confidence about their bodies, takes place at 5 p.m. at the Findlay Student Center Ballroom on the Drury campus, part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
Tales to Celebrate Our Multicultural Heritage at 7 p.m. in Plaster Student Union on the SMSU campus features Diann Joy Bank, a professional Jewish storyteller and educator, who will entertain with her blend of rhythm, song, movement and audience participation in her stories.

Guitarist Robert Belinic performs at 7:30 p.m. at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, part of the Don Wessel Emerging Concert Artists series. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased by calling (417) 836-SMSU.
Faculty Woodwind Quintet Recital begins at 8 p.m. in Ellis Recital Hall on the SMSU campus.

Environmental and community activist Susana Almanza speaks at 11 a.m. in Clara Thompson Hall on the Drury campus, part of Drury’s convocation series “For the Common Good: Private Interest and Global Citizenship.” Almanza will discuss the work of People Organized in Defense of Earth and her Resources, which was instrumental in the closing and relocation of several power plants located in lower-income residential areas in Texas.
Faculty Recital, featuring SMSU associate professor of music Bill Hartman playing trombone, begins at 8 p.m. at Ellis Recital Hall.
“Free Black Women During the Civil War Era,” a lecture by award-winning author Wilma King, Strickland professor in African American history and culture at the University of Missouri-Columbia, begins at 7 p.m. in Plaster Student Union Theater on the SMSU campus.
35th annual Engineering and Technology Career Night will be held 5:30-8:15 p.m. at Hillcrest High School, 3319 N. Grant Ave. This event is open to all high school students, their parents and faculty; meal cost is $3. For reservations, call Jo Smay at (417) 575-9433.
“Romulus,” Gore Vidal’s satirical comedy, opens at 8 p.m. at the Wilhoit Theatre on the Drury campus. The play, presented by Drury’s theater department, is an adaptation of “Romulus the Great” by Swiss playwright Freidrich Dürrenmatt. Performances continue March 4, 5 and 10-12. “Bioethics and Human Excellence,” an SMSU College of Humanities and Public Affairs symposium, is held 1-7 p.m. and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 5 in Plaster Student Union. National and regional experts will speak on bioethical issues such as the beginning of life, human enhancement, end of life and the environment.
“The Church and the Changing Family,” a one-day conference designed to help local congregations understand and respond to the needs of the changing family, will be held 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Findlay Student Center on the Drury campus. The conference, sponsored by the Drury University School of Religion, is open to pastors and lay leaders. A registration fee of $15 must be received by Feb. 28.
