Art takes over downtown Springfield this weekend

Posted online
More than 130 artists are scheduled to participate this weekend in Springfield’s 26th annual Artsfest, a celebration of the visual and performing arts.

The event will be held 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday on Walnut Street, from National Avenue to west of John Q. Hammons Parkway.

The artists’ mediums will include wood, glass, clay, printmaking, paper, jewelry, photography, metal, painting, drawing, fiber and mixed media.

The festival also will feature five performance stages, an Art-Town Downtown children’s area and a dog parade. New this year are a People’s Choice Award, Tent Cinema, Coffeehouse State, free shuttles and short films produced during the recent Springfield and the Ozarks 48-Hour Film Challenge.

Springfield Symphony will perform “An Evening at Artsfest,” an outdoor pops concert, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Jordan Valley Park. The evening’s special guest performer will be a Mariachi band visiting from Springfield’s sister city, Tlaquepaque, Mexico.

In the event of rain, the concert will be rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets to ArtsFest are $3 if purchased in advance at any area McDonald’s or $5 at the gate.

Also this weekend is First Friday Art Walk, held 6–10 p.m. downtown.[[In-content Ad]]
