The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences yesterday announced it would slash its workforce by 600 positions.
Of the positions identified, 258 of them are occupied, Arkansas Business reports.
UAMS spokeswoman Leslie Taylor said the cuts are projected to lower expenses by $26 million to $30 million for the fiscal year ending June 30. For the fiscal year starting July 1, savings would amount to $60 million, she said.
