Architecture: Springfield R-12 Southwest Elementary School

Sapp Design Associates Architects PC is architect for the Springfield R-12 School District's new southwest elementary school, which is to be built on West Weaver Road. Engineers for the 55,300-square-foot project are Malone, Finkle, Eckhardt & Collins and Scott Consulting Engineers PC. The facility will house fifth- and sixth-grade students in a phase I building envelope of approximately 55,000 square feet. The initial phase will include 15 general classrooms, three science labs, art and music departments, a library, gymnasium and a multipurpose room with cafeteria. It will accommodate approximately 500 students. Future expansions could increase the size to accommodate a maximum of 700 students. The school district and the city of Springfield are working together to provide a joint school/park concept model on the 20-acre site.
