Hagerman New Urbanism LLC entered Global Green USA’s New Orleans Sustainable Design Competition. Participants were asked to design an apartment complex, single-family homes and a daycare center for Stage 1 of the competition, aimed at aiding in the green rebuilding of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Hagerman New Urbanism’s design, comprising all of the above, had an estimated cost of $5 million. Bo Hagerman, director of art, architecture with HNU, said he has learned that a New York firm has been named the winner of the competition and will design the redevelopment of an area of New Orleans that was damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Jury chairs for the competition were Springfield native and actor Brad Pitt and Thomas Mayne, principal of California-based design firm Morphosis, which has won numerous awards, including several from the American Institute of Architects. Other judges were New Orleans residents and city officials. “We thought maybe we’d win,” Hagerman said. “It was a long shot, but still fun.” [[In-content Ad]]
