Architects & Engineers Winter 2008 Project Report: Sapp Design Associates Architects PC

Sapp Design Associates is the architect for a genealogy library in Independence for Mid-Continent Public Library. Overland Park, Kan.-based Larson Binkley is the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer, and Kansas City-based Structural Engineering Associates is the structural engineer for the two-story project, which comprises more than 50,000 square feet and has an estimated cost of $8 million. Springfield-based Interior Planning Consultants Inc. is the interior designer, and Johnson County Kan.-based Titan Construction Organization Inc. is the general contractor. The facility is designed to house the library’s nationally recognized genealogy collection. It will be located on a wooded site near the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library. The genealogy research library is meant to serve as a daylong destination with a collegiate feel, with large bay windows and traditional interior accents. There will be a snack area, locker space, expanded research facilities and private meeting areas, including offices for consultations and instruction. Completion is slated for June.
