Architects & Engineers 2009 Winter Project Report: Smith-Goth Engineers Inc.

Posted online
Location: Altoona, Iowa

General Contractor: Parkes Construction of Franklin, Tenn.

Estimated Cost: Not disclosed

Description: Smith-Goth Engineers is the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer for Bass Pro Shops' 145,000-square-foot store in Altoona, Iowa. Creative Ink Architects LLC is the architect for the facility, and Tom Jowett and Bill Baunach of Bass Pro Design are handling interior designs. The store will have the history, art, conservation, education and entertainment elements common to Bass Pro Shops, but the Altoona store will be a tribute to the diversity of the landscape of the central Iowa plains. The store will occupy 130,000 square feet, with an Uncle Buck's Bar & Grill, private dining room, billiard room and 12-lane bowling alley filling the rest of the space. There also will be a themed arcade, general store and a 20,000-gallon freshwater main aquarium and a four-bay service center in the marine and boat center. Completion is slated for August.
