Description: Olsson Associates is providing the mechanical, electrical, civil/site and water resources engineering for Springfield Public Schools' middle school on a 20-acre site. Pinnacle Design Consultants LLC is the structural engineer. Jack Ball & Associates Architects PC is the architect of the school, which was designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The school will have a gymnasium and auditorium similar to other middle schools, and it will have a commons area that can be used as a cafeteria, as well as a community meeting area. Energy-efficient features include daylighting, water-source heat pumps and storm water best-management practices, including depressed islands to treat parking lot runoff. Completion is slated for later this year.
