Architect with global influence dies at 81

Helmut Jahn, a German-born architect who designed buildings around the world, died on Saturday. He was 81.

Jahn was struck by two cars while riding his bicycle near his home in St. Charles, Illinois. He reportedly failed to brake at a stop sign.

He's known for Chicago projects such as the Xerox Center and the United Airlines terminal at O’Hare International Airport. He also designed the Kemper Arena, now known as Hy-Vee Arena, in Kansas City.
