Apple yanks New York Times apps in China

Posted online

Apple has pulled The New York Times news apps from its App Store in China.

The move is in response to Chinese authorities calling for the block. The country has banned the U.S. publication's English and Chinese websites for around five years.

"We have been informed that the app is in violation of local regulations. As a result, the app must be taken down off the China App Store," Apple officials said in a statement. "When this situation changes, the App Store will once again offer the New York Times app for download in China."
