Apple to invest $390M in Finisar

Apple Inc. plans to invest $390 million into Sunnyvale, California-based optical components maker Finisar Corp.

The investment is meant to spur production of chips powering iPhone X features including Face ID, Animojis and portrait-mode photos.

From Apple's $1 billion advanced manufacturing fund, the company first made an investment of $200 million into Gorilla Glass maker Corning Inc. in May.
