Apple sells record 10M iPhones in first weekend

Posted online
Apple announced that opening weekend sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus topped 10 million, beating the record of 9 million set last year by predecessors iPhone 5s and 5c.

"Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn't be happier," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement Monday.

According to USA Today, the 10 million figure doesn't include China, where Apple reportedly delayed launching the new iPhones as it waits for regulatory approval.
