Apple sells a record 13M iPhones in first weekend

Despite any Pope-related shipping delays, the latest iPhone set a new sales record this weekend.

Dropping on Friday, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus sold more than 13 million, according to NBC News.

The sales broke Apple Inc.’s (Nasdaq: APPL) previous record set by last year’s release of the 6 and 6 Plus by more than 30 percent.

The pair of new iPhones will go on sale in more than 40 more countries Oct. 9.
