Apple seeks nod to open India stores

Amid concerns of slowing sales growth in its main markets, Apple Inc. has applied to set up retail stores in India.

It currently sells its products in India through third-party resellers. It's estimated the company currently has a less than 2 percent share in India's smartphone market, which is dominated by cheaper brands.

Apple currently operates over 450 stores in 18 countries.
