Apple registers domains tied to cars

Is the iCar coming?

That’s the latest in Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: APPL) rumors after the company bought the domain rights to a trio of car-related names.

USA Today reports Apple.car, Apple.cars and Apple.auto have been registered by Apple. Although the domains are registered, none point to a live website.

However, the domain names could be used for multiple purposes, including promotion of CarPlay, Apple's infotainment system for cars embraced by several major automakers, such as Honda and Hyundai.
