Apple leads share buyback binge

Apple repurchased a record $18 billion worth of its own stock during the first three months of 2014, making it the poster child for an ongoing trend in Corporate America, according to a report released Wednesday.

According to figures from S&P Dow Jones Indices, S&P 500 companies spent a combined $159.3 billion to buy back their own shares during the first quarter.

According to CNNMoney, that's a 59 percent increase from first-quarter 2013 and also up $30 billion from what the companies spent in the fourth quarter.
