Apple iPhone 5s, 5c phones set new sales record

Apple Inc. sold more than 9 million iPhones in three days – a new opening weekend sales record.

The company declined to break down figures separately for each of its two new smartphones — the iPhone 5s and its lower-end iPhone 5c — but said it has run through its entire initial supply of the higher-end model, according to the Washington Post.

The sales figures outpaced opening weekend expectations, thought to range between 5 and 8 million.

Company stock opened up 5.2 percent this week to $492 a share.
