Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) has tapped Burberry Group PLC Chief Executive Angela Ahrendts to head up its retail efforts.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Apple recruited Ahrendts because she is a a seasoned executive credited with turning around the luxury-fashion brand and will fill a big gap in the Cupertino, Calif., company's retail operation.
The 53-year-old Ahrendts will oversee the strategic direction, expansion and operation of Apple's retail and online stores, reporting directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook.
On Oct. 15, Burberry reported first-half sales of $1.65 billion, and retail sales rose 17 percent compared to last year.
Ahrendts has been CEO of the United Kingdom-based brand since 2006. She will start with Apple next year.
