Apple computers targeted in first ransomware attack

Apple computers have been successfully targeted by malicious software called ransomware for the first time, according to security researchers.

Palo Alto Networks on March 4 took notice of the ransomware on OS X and informed Apple.

Ransomware hijacks a computer and locks out its user until a ransom is paid.

The software affecting Apple computers, dubbed keRanger, requires victims to pay one bitcoin, which is equivalent to just over $400.
