Apple acknowledged it is slowing down older iPhones. But according to company officials, it's not for the reason you might think.
Apple officials claim operating system updates that, as a byproduct, cause slowdowns, are meant to slow the degradation of lithium-ion batteries.
Officials said software updates for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone SE and iPhone 7 are meant to "smooth out" peak power demand and prevent surprise shutdowns.
