Anthem sues Express Scripts over drug pricing

Posted online
Indianapolis-based insurance company Anthem Inc. has filed suit against St. Louis-based pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts.

In the lawsuit, Anthem alleges Express Scripts prices drugs higher than competitive benchmark pricing.

Anthem seeks damages for the alleged higher prices and damages for operational issues. The insurer also wants to terminate its contract with Express Scripts.

Express Scripts says the lawsuit has no merit.

“Express Scripts values its relationship with Anthem and will continue to honor its commitments under the contract, as we would do with any client,” company officials said in a statement. “Express Scripts has consistently acted in good faith and in accordance with the terms of its agreement with Anthem.”
