Anonymous text campaign targets SPS board candidates

Posted online

An anonymous text message sent to several members of the community on Tuesday targeted the campaigns of Danielle Kincaid and Daniel Ogunyemi for the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education.

The text included a Facebook screenshot showing Kincaid standing with friends at a drag queen brunch prior to the pandemic. The message reads: "Critical Race Theory & drag queen values...that's what your children will get with school board candidates Danielle Kincaid and Daniel Ogunyemi. We can do better, Springfield!"

The message did not include "paid for by" information, which is required of campaign materials, the Springfield News-Leader reports.

The text drew condemnation from many members of the community, including SPS board member Charles Taylor. "The only thing worse than bigotry and homophobia is cowardly, anonymous bigotry and homophobia," he said.
