The fundraiser launched at 6 a.m. June 1, hosted by Alice on-air personalities Kevin Howard and Liz Delany, who, along with others, spent nearly 30 hours raising the $125,698, which will supply food-filled backpacks for more than 415 students, according to an Ozarks Food Harvest news release. Several businesses, including BKD LLP, Hiland Dairy, Metropolitan National Bank and Peck’s Insurance & Financial Services, provided matching donations during the fundraiser.
KOLR-10 and KOZL also partnered with Ozarks Food Harvest and Alice 95.5 during the fundraiser to collect food donations, but the final tally on the total pounds collected has yet to be determined.
In southwest Missouri, 30 schools participate in the food bank’s Weekend Backpack Program, and last year, roughly 30,000 backpacks, each with enough food for two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, two snacks and drinks, were distributed to children in need.
Pledges to support the backpack program can still be made this week at OzarksFoodHarvest.org, the release said.
