Andy's Frozen Custard is treating itself to new territory in education.

The company is the first-ever corporate sponsor of the leadership development program held by Missouri Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Missouri Girls State. The financial terms of the partnership were undisclosed in a news release.

Andy's will underwrite the program, which takes place this year June 24-July 1 at Lindenwood University in St. Charles.

“Our company has a long history of giving back to the state of Missouri and, in particular, elementary and middle-school-aged children,” said Andy Kuntz, CEO and owner of Andy’s Frozen Custard, in the release. “I come from many generations of folks born, raised and educated in Missouri, and nothing brings me more joy than being able to help foster the success of our fine young students by expanding that commitment to high school students as well.”

The leadership development program, which is more than 80 years old, has students construct their own state using democratic values. It's designed to teach students the value of public service and is offered at no cost to students.

As part of its sponsorship, Andy's will provide treats to the participants, and its executives will take part in the program to offer guidance on operating a franchise business, according to the release.

Near the school of Missouri State University, Andy's in August 2022 opened a new store at the former National Art Shop site, 509 S. National Ave., according to past reporting.

I am so pleased to see that Andy's is helping to sponsor Mo. Boys and Girls State. I attended Ark. Girl's State when I was in High School. I surely wish we could have stayed in a College dorm. We had to stay in a temporarily closed Air Force Base. It cemented in my mind that I never wanted to join the military. Girl's State was great but communal living was not my cup of tea!
