How does an aging Swedish pop star fight crime? By encouraging his country to ditch paper cash and coins.
The idea of going cashless came to ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus after his son's apartment was repeatedly burgled, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.Thinking that eliminating cash could remove the incentive for street crime, Ulvaeus started campaigning for a cash-free Sweden.
Apparently, he's not the only one who thinks cash is an obsolete construct. Institutions, companies and governments have begun phasing out physical money, according to the report. Israel, Japan, South Korea and Kenya are all developing or have developed plans to segue from physical cash and to electronic-only financial transactions.
