Amycakes announces closure

Amycakes LLC, a center city staple in business for more than a decade, is slated to close next month.

Co-owner Amy Bloodworth announced the planned Feb. 20 closure date of the 1108 E. Walnut St. bakery in a post on the shop’s Facebook page yesterday.

"It's been a wonderful 11.5 years! We are so grateful for our fabulous customers – we have loved getting to know you, and we've been overwhelmed with the support we've felt from the Springfield community," Bloodworth said in the post. "We will be fine, but other local businesses will need your support in the months to come!"

Bloodworth could not be reached for comment by deadline. A call to the shop this morning was met with a recording stating the company’s bookings are quickly filling up for Valentine’s Day after the closure announcement.

Amycakes launched in 2009 after Bloodworth acquired The Bakehouse, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. The bakery moved to its current home on Walnut Street in 2014 after previously operating downtown at 308 W. McDaniel St.

SBJ reporting from 2019 indicates Amycakes posted record revenue of $230,000 in 2018. The shop sells made-from-scratch cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cake truffles and cinnamon rolls.
