Amtrak warned Congress it may have to cut 2,400 jobs without a federal relief package.
Officials with the company have asked for up to $4.9 billion in federal assistance to keep employees on board, avoid service reductions, continue capital projects and “stave off bankruptcy.”
The company earlier this month furloughed more than 2,000 employees.
