Amtrak train thought to be going twice speed limit

National Transportation Safety Board officials say speed likely played a factor in Tuesday night’s Amtrak Northeast Regional Train derailment.

CNN reports the NTSB said preliminary data shows the train's speed exceeded 100 mph before the derailment. That would be more than twice the 50 mph speed limit for the curve it was on.

Seven cars and an engine left the track, killing at least seven people and wounding hundreds of others.
