Amid criticism, Trump defends Mexico deal

President Donald Trump is facing criticism from Democrats who say he's overselling a deal with Mexico.

The Trump administration reached a deal with Mexico to avoid tariffs. Mexico deployed troops to its southern border to head off migrants and pledged to expand a program that returns some asylum seekers to Mexico. Critics, however, say Mexico already had been planning to do those things.

“We have been trying to get some of these Border Actions for a long time, as have other administrations, but were not able to get them, or get them in full, until our signed agreement with Mexico," Trump tweeted, noting if the agreement had been reached under the Obama administration, “the Corrupt Media would be hailing them as Incredible, & a National Holiday would be immediately declared.”
