America's finest hours deserve notice

Lists of the greatest this, that or the other thing of the 20th century have proliferated. It must be that enough people wrongly assume 1999 is the last year of the century, rather than 2000, which leads to all these lists.

The Rusty Saber a few months ago joined in by inviting readers to send in their choices for their favorite all-time movies, and a Rusty Saber column commented on Time Magazine's list of greatest entertainers of the century.

A category of the "greatest of the century" that, to my knowledge, hasn't been brought up is: "America's finest hours of the 20th century." By this I mean times when this nation stood tallest, making people the most proud.
