Americans are spending most since 2009

U.S. consumer spending increased 1 percent in April from March, the largest gain since August 2009.

The numbers, according to CNNMoney, indicate Americans are buying big-ticket items such as refrigerators, roofs, cars and televisions.

The latest gain follows a sluggish winter.
