Held at Rivercut, the inaugural championship was a partnership between Bass Pro Shops, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, the Payne Stewart Family Foundation and the Heart of the Ozarks Junior Golf Foundation. The event drew junior golfers from nearly 20 states.
Besides the on-course play, a complimentary players’ banquet was held; players received a filled Bass Pro gift bag; players were entertained by Bass Pro casting games and were able to take a look at the company’s NASCAR car and three speedboats. Also factors in receiving the award was the level of maintenance and condition of the course at Rivercut, the amenities and hospitality, the release said.
The 2008 Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Golf Championship is slated for Aug. 4–7.
