American Express expands parental leave to 20 weeks

American Express is joining the movement for expanded parental leave.

The company announced yesterday it would widen its parental leave program for mothers and fathers to up to 20 weeks. Mothers who give birth and need additional medical leave also can qualify for another six to eight weeks. 

The policy starting Jan. 1 also will increase the amount the company contributes to adoption and infertility treatments for its employees.
